Are you wearing your rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets or necklaces on a daily basis and notice it is not as sparkly as it was when you first got it? Fret no more.
What makes jewellery dull and dirty? Many things can diminish the sparkle and shine of our jewellery. Everyday things such as soaps, hand creams, oils and other lotions and potions coat gemstones and take away their lustre.
Rediscovering the radiance couldn’t be simpler.
What you will need:
- Washing up liquid
- Warm water
- Soft toothbrush
- Bowl
How to do it:
Step 1: If the ring is overly dirty it might need to be soaked in the solution first, for five minutes, to soften the grime.
Step 2: Then take the soft toothbrush with solution and gently brush away the dirt focusing around the back and sides of the setting
Step 3: Make sure to NOT empty out the bowl without checking to see if you have any stones missing from your jewellery.
Step 4: Once you are satisfied that all the residue of life is brushed away, then you can rinse the soapy solution from the gem. Dry off with a soft cloth.
Step 5: Gently tap your ring and listen to ensure that none of your stone is loose in their setting. And enjoy the fruits of your labours.

This method is not appropriate for:
- Gemstones: pearls, opals, amber, coral, turquoise, jade emeralds
- Many types of antique jewellery often used as closed back settings. This cleaning method is not appropriate for this type of jewellery, as the solution will stay within the setting and have the opposite effect.
- Enamelled jewellery
